On GenerosityWe rise by lifting others.

Greatness is measured by who you pull up with you.
The explanation
The highest position in life is not the one you reach alone. It is the platform you become so that others can stand on it. Helping someone else rise does not diminish your height; it proves you were ever up there at all.
The story
There was a senior engineer on my team named Marcus who could have coasted for a decade on the code he'd already written. Instead, when a nervous new grad named Priya joined, he blocked out an hour every evening — 5:30 to 6:30, printed on his calendar — to sit beside her and walk through whatever was breaking. He never made her feel small for asking.
He would ask her to explain what she thought was happening first, then gently open the stack trace and show her what the machine was actually saying. For weeks I watched them, foreheads close to the same monitor, the room around them emptying out. When Priya finally shipped her first real feature — a search optimization the whole product had needed for years — she stood up in the demo and thanked him by name, her voice shaking.
Marcus turned pink and stared at his shoes. He didn't lose an ounce of status that quarter; the opposite happened. Three new engineers requested him as mentor by the end of the month, and management quietly created a title for what he was already doing. He'd built something no promotion could have given him: a reputation for making other people bigger.
